  • Polish Air Force uses Teledyne Controls Wireless GroundLink® Comm+ system to further enhance safety of VIP Flights

The Polish Air Force now benefits from the acquisition of aircraft flight data via Teledyne's Digital Flight Data Unit (DFDAU), automated download of the flight data via the GroundLink® Comm+ cellular system, and processing and analysis via Teledyne's AirFASE® ground software.

Warsaw, September 2019 - The Polish Air Force is now using a sophisticated suite of flight data recording, transmission, management and analysis technology from Teledyne Controls to further improve the safety and efficiency of its dedicated VIP Flights for senior government and military officials.

The Polish Air Force has deployed Teledyne's GroundLink® Comm+ system - a wireless quick access recorder and communication device that provides cellular wireless connectivity between the aircraft and a ground-based analysis station. With over 14,000 units delivered, the GroundLink® system is widely used by civilian airplanes worldwide.

A key use case for GroundLink® technology is the requirement to scrutinize a pre-VIP flight engine ground run. Data is offloaded from the aircraft to flight operations and analyzed automatically. This allows the flight operations team to scrutinize the data and determine engine operating performance. Any anomalies within the data can be quickly identified and rectified before the flight.

Thomas Innocenti, Regional Director, Government and Military Sales, says that this approach will deliver significant operational benefits: “Teledyne's GroundLink® automated download solution accelerates information delivery, minimizes costs and optimizes efficiency, compliance, quality control and process management," he explains.

Lt. Wojciech Szczygiel, Avionics Engineer, 1st Airlift Base, Warsaw, Poland, says that the assurance the technology provides is essential: “As well as further enhancing the safety of our aircraft, one of our main uses of Teledyne's products is efficiency and with this technology we are able to optimize processes, both in the speed of flight data download and analysis for our senior officials."

This project with the Polish Air Force demonstrates Teledyne's continued ability to leverage the solutions it first developed for commercial aviation to enhance the safety and efficiency of government and military aircraft. “We value our relationship with the Polish Air Force and look forward to contributing to their vision of providing safe and efficient transportation for Poland's important state officials," Thomas concludes.
